HUCK TALKS - ‘The Future of Gender’

Tues 13 March 17.30 for 18.00 start – end 19.00

The last few years have seen some seismic shifts in the way we perceive and discuss gender. In 2017 alone, millions across the world marched for gender equality, and #MeToo established itself as one of the most visible social justice movements in recent memory. Equality is a top trending topic: and with more and more of us opting to shun traditional gender labels entirely, the lines between the binaries are becoming more blurred than ever.

So what can we expect from 2018? How will our perceptions of gender, and the constructs we’ve built around it, survive in this new age of progressive thinking? Are we moving closer to a genderless future, or are growing societal divisions at risk of driving us further apart?

Join us as we discuss this, with Huck's Digital Editor Dominique Sisley, and News Editor, Michael Segalov along with guests:

Paris Lees: Journalist, presenter and activist.

Travis Alabanza: Performer, writer and poet.

Benedict Douglas Stewardson (Rodent Decay): Performance artist.

Sirin Kale: Journalist and Associate Editor, Broadly.

Can we look to our animal companions to better understand ourselves? Wes Anderson seems to think so. In his canine caper set in a meticulously realised retro-futurist vision of Japan, pets are reflections of the humans closest to them. If you're keen to take a peek at what destiny has in store for you, step inside our Magic Depictor, where the identity of your future pet will be revealed…
